STORA ENSO LANGERBRUGGE
Na twee jaar bouwen en een investering van 140 miljoen euro, is de tweede energiecentrale van Stora Enso Langerbrugge klaar. De beide energiecentrales voorzien nu samen in 100% van de eigen stoombehoefte en in meer dan 50% van de elektriciteitsbehoefte.
Jaarlijks zal Stora Enso Langerbrugge 240.000 ton brandstof verbranden waarvan de helft B-hout. Dat is hout afkomstig van containerparken en afbraakwerken. Dit B–hout wordt eerst verkleind en ontdaan van metaal en andere onzuiverheden zodat het kwalitatief goed is om te verbranden. De andere helft brandstof bestaat uit RDF, Refuse Derived Fuels. Dat is materiaal dat geen ander nuttig doel heeft dan verbrand te worden. Het wordt meestal gestort of verbrand in een gewone vuilverbrandingsoven. De Stora Enso energiecentrale heeft echter een veel hoger rendement dan een klassieke oven waarbij de rookgassenwassing gebeurt volgens de nieuwste technologieën. Het is niet het doel van Stora Enso Langerbrugge om tonnen afval te verwerken, maar wel om energie te genereren.

BIO BASE EUROPE PILOT PLANT
Innovation & training for a sustainable biobased economy
Bio Base Europe is het eerste open innovatie– en opleidingscentrum voor de Europese bio gebaseerde economie. Vlaanderen en Nederland werken samen aan de realisatie van ‘state–of–the–art’ onderzoeks– en opleidingscentra.
Het heeft als doel de kloof tussen de kritische wetenschappelijke haalbaarheid en de industriële toepassing van nieuwe biotechnologische processen te overbruggen.
Hierbij ligt de focus op de tweede generatie technologieën, met de omzetting van afvalproducten uit de landbouw en non–food gewassen tot biobrandstoffen, bioplastics en andere bioproducten.
De Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is gelegen in de haven van Gent en is toegankelijk voor bedrijven en onderzoeksinstellingen uit gans de wereld.

BIOWANZE
Een eco–vriendelijke bio–ethanol fabriek
BioWanze, een dochteronderneming van CropEnergies AG is de grootste bioethanol producent in België. De bioethanol wordt geproduceerd met suikerbieten en granen en is bestemd voor het transport. De onderneming met een productiecapaciteit van 300.000 m³, werd ingehuldigd in december 2008 en heeft een van de meest innovatieve productieprocessen van Europa.
Het is zo ecologisch mogelijk gebouwd: bijproducten worden gebruikt als vaste biobrandstoffen in een WKK–centrale, waardoor de site bijna volledig energetisch zelfvoorzienend is.
De 125.000 m³ bioethanol voorzien voor de Belgische markt worden enkel geproduceerd met lokale grondstoffen en getransporteerd via het water waardoor CO2–uitstoot geminimaliseerd wordt.

Excursie Namiddag
ULG SART TILMAN CENTRALE WKK-INSTALLATIE
De Universiteit van Luik is gelegen in een buitenwijk van Luik en zal weldra 30% van haar elektriciteitsbehoefte produceren dankzij een nieuwe biomassa WKK–installatie. Een multi–brandstoffen ketel aangesloten op twee stoomturbines (3.250 kWel – 7.000 kWth) is toegevoegd aan het originele verwarmingssyteem. De biobrandstof–ketel zal voornamelijk gebruik maken van houtpellets (16.000 t / j), opgeslagen in twee tanks met elk een capaciteit van 400 ton. De warmte wordt aan de gebouwen van de Universitaire campus en het ziekenhuis geleverd via een warmtedistributie netwerk en zal 70% van de warmtevraag dekken.
U zult de eerste bezoeker zijn van dit nieuwe project.
